PEGRAM FIRE DEPARTMENT

 March 5, 2008 - 0553 Hrs.

At 0553hrs, PFD was paged out to respond automatic aid with the Kingston Springs Fire Department to a commercial structure fire at a Sonic Drive-In at 106 Luyben Hills Road.  The first KSFD unit on the scene set up command and advised all responding units that all occupants were out of the building and heavy black smoke was showing.  Shortly after the initial report, Command advised fire was visible on the roof.  KSFD E303 arrived on scene and started an interior attack.  PFD E502 and E501 arrived on scene and assisted with interior attack operations and also positive pressure ventilation operations by forcing entry to a rear door.  Fire was under control in under 10 minutes.  The fire started on a grill top on the interior of the structure while employees were getting ready to open for business.  The fire then spread from the grill top up into the grill's vent all the way to the roof.  There was moderate to heavy smoke and heat damage to the interior of the structure.  Crews started interior salvage and overhaul operations and also checked the roof of the structure for fire extension.  Roof was cleared and all units were released and returned back to quarters.
